Our Flag
The current flag reflects only PFDJ ideology that is against our Ge’ez history, identity and culture. The new flag is about our history, identity, values and sacrifices.
The White and blue colours
In the bible, God commands the Israeli People to wear fringes at the corners of their clothes as a reminder of His commandments .
- Numbers 15:38:
“Speak to the children of Israel and you shall say to them that they shall make for themselvesfringes on the corners of their garments, throughout their generations, and they shall affix a thread of blue on the fringe of each corner.” - Deuteronomy 22:12:
“You shall make yourselftwisted threads, on the four corners of your garment with which you cover yourself.”
The white and blue colours represent our identity and loyalty to our ancestors.
The Red colour
The red colour shows our bloods, sweats and tears we shed for many centuries to secure the continuity of our history and identity. The red colour in our flag represents our service values.
The Monorah
The menorah is described in the Bible as the seven-lamp (six branches) ancient Hebrew lamp stand made of gold and used in the portable sanctuary set up by Moses in the wilderness and later in the Temple in Jerusalem. Fresh olive oil of the purest quality was burned daily to light its lamps. The menorah has been a symbol of Orit/Judaism since ancient times and it is still in every Ge’ez church that had been built 70 years ago.
The bible said about the Monorah in Exodus 25:31-40
31 Thou shalt make also a candlestick of beaten work, of the finest gold, the shaft thereof, and the branches, the cups, and the bowls, and the lilies going forth from it. 32 Six branches shall come out of the sides, three out of one side, and three out of the other. 33 Three cups as it were nuts to every branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily: and three cups likewise of the fashion of nuts in the other branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily. Such shall be the work of the six branches that are to come out from the shaft: 34 And in the candlestick itself shall be four cups in the manner of a nut, and at every one bowls and lilies. 35 Bowls under two branches in three places, which together make six, coming forth out of one shaft. 36 And both the bowls and the branches shall be of the same beaten work of the purest gold. 37 Thou shalt make also seven lamps, and shalt set them upon the candlestick, to give light over against. 38 The snuffers also, and where the snuffing shall be put out, shall be made of the purest gold. 39 The menorah and its utensils are to be made of sixty-six pounds of pure gold. 40 See that you make them according to the design being shown you on the mountain.
